Activities

This workshop is geared toward giving the participants a chance to meditate/pray with the gong providing an energetic and sonic back drop.   It is 95 % experiential. I give a brief description and history of the gong and of the type of work I do.
Because of my experience as a percussionist, I approach a gong meditation with a subtle rhythmic quality, teasing out the vast array of tones, harmonics and shimmering nuances that reside within the instrument. The resulting mystical sound environment provides attendees with an uncommon space in which to experience the gong at work - a unique vehicle to quiet the mind & body.  My goal as facilitator is to be a sound bridge between the energy and spirit that lies within the gong.  During the performance I draw out or tune into the energy and spirit that resides in us all.

About our practitioner
Kenny Kolter has been a life long seeker.  He has practiced Transcendental Meditation since age 12. He  graduated from Maharishi International University with a B.A. in Comparative Literature where he was steeped in Ayurvedic (health) and Gandharva Veda (music) learning. He has been playing drums and percussion since age 9, traveling and performing internationally as a professional musician. Kenny also attended and staffed New Warrior, Pathways, Actualizations, & Drieukers Global seminars.

 He currently works with the state of Illinois to provide sound/vibrational awareness sessions at the state's largest mental health facility in Elgin.  In this work he is one of only a handful of sound therapists to use the gong for work with patients in a clinical setting. Kenny facilitates between 15 - 20 gong meditation and or drum circle workshops per month in the greater Chicago land area.
